Eddie Williams, Jr.
This page is in tribute to Eddie Williams, Jr. who led the campaign in Tennessee to have US 23 upgraded to interstate status. Eddie (from Johnson City, Tennessee) along with Mac McGough from Weaverville, North Carolina, coordinated a comprehensive two-state lobbyingeffort which led to the extension of Interstate 26 from Asheville to Johnson City. A former professional baseball player, Eddie's dynamicpersonality and enthusiasm for the Interstate 26 project was crucial to the project's success. When driving the new highway in Tennessee,keep in mind the contributions of this civic leader and relentless champion for the I-26 extension. This new interstate highway would never have been possible without the vision of Eddie Williams, Jr.
